For the past 7 and a half years, I’ve been a stay-at-home mom to my 2 wonderful children.  When I made the decision to stay at home, it was with a heavy heart, I always thought I would be the corporate type.  I wouldn’t change my time with my children for the world, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to missing the working world, just a little bit.  At the same time, I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to do all those things I didn’t have time to do while I was working.  Sewing, knitting, gardening, cooking, all of those things Martha Stewart does on a daily basis.  No one tells you taking care of a child is a full-time job!  Between cooking, cleaning, and changing diapers, there was little time left for pursuits of pleasure.  It was a joke in our house that I had been sitting around eating bonbons everyday while my husband was at work.  It took all my spare time just to keep the household running!  My son wasn’t much of a sleeper, so there were lots of naps in there too!

So, seven years have passed and I’m staring down the barrel of a gun at going back to work next year.  12 more months. 12 months to finish unfinished projects, learn how to use my new camera, set up a routine for cooking healthy meals on a budget, plant an herb garden, dance, knit, all kinds of things.  My life of leisure I like to think of it.  Both children will be in school full time in the fall, in the meantime, I’ll have to squeeze the most out of my time!

UPDATE:  Well, looks like I put off the return to the workforce for one more year.  Half-day Kindergarten was not conducive to finding a job!  Hopefully I’ll be able to slide back into tax season next year.  In the meantime, I’m still trying to make the best of the days and find my happy creative place!
